Therefore, in the dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Iran, two founding members of OPEC, the third strategic country of the region\u2014Oman &nbsp;(member of OPEC plus since 2016) increasingly looks as an indispensable partner.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1723\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vujic-geopolitika.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Musandam-Peninsula-Oman-Strait-of-Hormuz-694x400.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"1001\" height=\"577\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vujic-geopolitika.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Musandam-Peninsula-Oman-Strait-of-Hormuz-694x400.webp 694w, https:\/\/www.vujic-geopolitika.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Musandam-Peninsula-Oman-Strait-of-Hormuz-1388x800.webp 1388w, https:\/\/www.vujic-geopolitika.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Musandam-Peninsula-Oman-Strait-of-Hormuz-768x443.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.vujic-geopolitika.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Musandam-Peninsula-Oman-Strait-of-Hormuz-1536x885.webp 1536w, https:\/\/www.vujic-geopolitika.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Musandam-Peninsula-Oman-Strait-of-Hormuz.webp 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1001px) 100vw, 1001px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the one hand, because navigation through the Strait of Hormuz has been under the joint management of Iran and Oman since 1975 (<em>Iran-Oman Maritime Boundary Agreement)<\/em>. And on the other hand, because Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and Oman&#8217;s Crown Prince Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham, long time acquaintances, are both appointed future leaders of the countries of the Arabian Peninsula whose diplomatic skills are increasingly being counted on by international and regional actors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, the fear of global petro exchanges that Tehran could close the Strait of Hormuz is not abating. On the one hand because of sporadic announcements by radical actors, on the other, because of&nbsp; recent reports that the Commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, visited the surface and subsurface naval units deployed in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the maritime order in the Strait of Hormuz is different.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Namely, maritime traffic that enters and leaves the Arabian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz follows the well-established sea routes approved by the International Maritime Organization of the UN. Within that schedule of routes, at the narrowest point, both the northern\/inbound and southern\/outbound &#8220;channels&#8221; go through the waters of Oman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But times are changing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The frantic exchange of missiles and the escalation of threats between Israel and Iran, before the summer, pushed the petro-carriers to significantly change the traditional route when entering and leaving the Strait of Hormuz. Namely, within the strait, ships generally stay entirely in Omani waters, while in the northern\/&#8221;entrance channel&#8221; they used to sail along the edge of Iran&#8217;s territorial waters: congested traffic certainly increases the chances of incidents of various profiles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amid all this commotion, the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) is on its toes, especially after reports of Israeli submarines moving towards Gulf waters. Where the Royal Oman Navy currently deploys its ships operating from its naval bases on the Musandam Peninsula is not in the public domain.
